Patrick Weissinger is the new head coach of the German men's national team. After a period of uncertainty following the resignation of Nebosja Novoselac at the helm of the German men's team, now Weissinger will lead the team with immediate effect on a contract until the end of August 2016. Weissinger is a former Wasserfreunde Spandua Berlin captain and played 259 games for the national team. He previously coached the team of SSV Esslingen and was currently having a coaching job in Stuttgart.
The first task awaits the team in September in Malta where the 2nd qualification round for the 2016 European Championships will be played in which the German team has to ensure its spot at the final tournament in Belgrade mid-January, 2016. In preparation the national team is participation in the annual 4-nation friendly tournament in Portugalete, Spain where Russia, Romania and the hosts will be the opponents. Germany finished 9th at the 2014 European Championships in Budapest.
