The gap between the top 2 sides in Spain and their pursuers became even bigger after round 16 this weekend. Here reigning champions Barceloneta showed no mercy for recent 3rd ranked Mediterrani in a one-sided affair: 3-13. The Champions League Final hosts grabbed control right from the start and were never in endangered as they cruised to the comfortable win confirming their 2nd place on the table, still trailing Terrassa by 4 points. The league leaders made no mistake in the difficult away match against Catalunya. Top scorer Arpad Babay was held scoreless as former Spanish international Ivan Gallego led the charge for the visitors scoring 4 goals as Terrassa went on to win 8-11. Sant Andreu confirmed their status of dangerous contender at home as they edefeated Real Canoe 10-6 thanks to Lukas Duric and Tomas Bruder who scored 3 goals each for the home side. Also successful were Poble Nou who dominated last ranked AR Concepcion in Madrid. The home team was allowed to scoring just a one goal the entire match as Poble Nou walked away to a dominating 1-18 blowout win. Barcelona used a strong finish in the 4th quarter to edge fellow 6th place contenders Mataro Quadis 8-6. With the loss Mataro has now dropped to 9th place on the table. Sabadell remained in 3rd place thanks to a solid 5-10 victory over Navarra in Pamplona. A shaky start was erased from the 2nd period onwards as the visitors took control and won by 5.
