17th Women Asian Games Incheon, South Korea: China retain Asian Games title

The Chinese women have retained their Asian Games title on Wednesday in Incheon, South Korea after topping the rankings of the round-robin formatted women's tournament. In five days of competition inside the Dream Park Aquatics Center the Rick Azevedo coached side remained undefeated and held off their main rivals Japan (15-10) and Kazakhstan (6-11) by 5 goals. Japan won the goal difference battle with Kazakhstan, after the sides' head-to-head match-up ended with a 7-7 tie, to claim the silver medal while Kazakhstan settled for bronze. The focus of the water polo community at the 17th Asian Games no shift to the men's tournament, set to get underway on Thursday, to be concluded next Wednesday with Kazakhstan as the defending champion.
