The United States of America are the 2014 women's World Youth champions. An all-American gold medal final in Madrid, Spain saw Team USA prevailing over neighbours Canada 5-4. The juniors who earlier this year became UANA Junior Pan American champions completed the best follow-up possible by claiming the world title after a convincing performance in the Spanish capital this week. In the gold medal final USA came out strong taking a quick 2-0 lead before Canada made a single-goal difference at half-time, though still trailing. In a balanced second half the US women held on for the tough 5-4 victory. The bronze medal match saw an equally balanced encounter that ultimately had to be decided by a penalty shootout, won by Hungary 10-11 over Greece despite the Greek enjoyed a 4-0 lead at quarter time. Italy finished 5th after an 8-11 win over the Netherlands. In Sunday's opening match host nation Spain took 7th place dominating China 1-7.
